On the morning of April 16, some people gathered at Washington Square in New York and started protesting against the increasing atrocities on Muslims in India. Their number was not much. But some youths were seen with placards in their hands which read, Stop Hindu Majoritarian Violence, Hindutva Kills, Stop Genocide in India, and stop anti Muslim violence, stop ban on Hijab-Halal and Stop Economic Boycott of Muslims. They all are associated with the autonomous all-volunteer political collective named SASI (South Asia Solidarity Initiative).
How do they operate?
The full form of SASI is the South Asia Solidarity Initiative, which was started in 2008 in New York. It describes itself as an autonomous all-volunteer political collective. It works not only in the US but also in other countries.
Their aim is to oppose state repression, majoritarian politics, reactionary non-state forces, dispossession of communities and oppression of people along the lines of caste, gender, class, region, race, ethnicity, sexuality and religion. Especially in the South Asia region.

According to the information available on SASI's website, they do not have a formal leadership structure, nor do we have a board. The Organizing Collective (OC) is the primary structure responsible for the decisions that are made regarding SASI's activities, statements, and campaigns. They say 'We stand with those in South Asia who dissent, and we will amplify the voices of those who are silenced'.
This organization believes that Muslims are being persecuted in India. There is a Majoritarian government in India which is continuously targeting the minority community, playing with their religious rights and human rights. If we look at the placards brought in the Protest, it is clearly visible that this organization is making the basis of its opposition to the violence in 6 states of the country on Ram Navami, the controversy over the hijab ban in Karnataka and Halal meat.

Recently, the US government also commented on the deteriorating environment in India. On which India had given a strict response. Seeing the FIR of the police on the violence on Ramnavami and seeing the official statement, it seems that it is the Muslims who attacked the peaceful Hindu procession and tried to disturb the peace.
