Patiala: 10 year old girl died after eating birthday cake ordered online

A 10-year-old girl passed away after consuming cake at a birthday celebration in Patiala, Punjab, turning it into a tragedy. The family stated that Manvi and her sister fell ill on the night after they celebrated Manvi's birthday and ate the cake that they had ordered online.

Manvi's grandfather said a video showed her family members feeding the girl cake during the birthday celebrations. The children started vomiting around 3 am and someone took them to a nearby hospital.

The family reported their daughter's sudden death, which occurred shortly after eating the birthday cake. Other family members also got sick. The incident happened on March 24. The deceased's grandfather, Manvi, narrated the incident. He said the family ordered the cake around 6 pm and celebrated her birthday around 7 pm.

“At around 11 pm, the whole family fell ill. The two younger daugthers started vomiting. There were five people at home at that time. While the youngest daughter Preman’s life was saved as she vomited the cake, we lost Manvi.” he said

Harban Lal, Manvi's grandfather, recounted to NDTV that Manvi felt extremely thirsty and complained of dry mouth. She requested water before retiring to bed, however, tragically, she succumbed to the suspected food poisoning thereafter.

In response to Manvi's deteriorating health, her family rushed her to the hospital the next morning. The medical staff administered interventions, which included oxygen support and an electrocardiogram (ECG) to monitor her heart's electrical activity. Despite their best efforts, they could not save Manvi. Her grandfather, Harban Lal, informed that she had been pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Legal action has been taken against the bakery shop owner under Sections 273 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The family alleges that the chocolate cake, which they procured from 'Cake Kanha', may have contained a harmful substance which led to the tragic outcome. Consequently, under Sections 273 and 304A of the IPC, they have lodged an FIR against the bakery owner.
