Ground Report | New Delhi: J&K being attacked directly; All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said Jammu and Kashmir was “under direct attack from New Delhi” and the Indian government should restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir in a free and fair manner.
J&K being attacked directly
Addressing a gathering at the Jammu and Kashmir Congress headquarters on Maulana Azad Road here, Rahul today said not only Jammu and Kashmir but other parts of India like Tamil Nadu, Bengal, and other states have also been attacked. “But one thing is clear that Jammu and Kashmir are being attacked directly from New Delhi, while other parts are being attacked indirectly,” Rahul said.
He said that the Congress party has a clear stand for Jammu and Kashmir. “Statehood should be fully restored and assembly elections should be held in a free, fair, and transparent manner,” Rahul said.
Responding to senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s suggestion regarding a demand for a bill in Parliament to restore statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul said: “I am not allowed to speak in Parliament. I cannot speak about raffles, unemployment, and corruption. They (BJP) have attacked the judiciary, the Lok Sabha, and even the voice of the media have been suppressed. Journalists can’t write what they want.”
He said that when there was a Congress government in Jammu and Kashmir, big schemes like Udaan were started and Panchayat elections were held. “We brought experts to Kashmir University and sent Kashmiri youth to other states of India. But they (BJP) attacked the process as well.
Feels the pain of people of J&K
Rahul said that he can feel the pain of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “My message to you is that I am with you to build a relationship based on love and respect. I am fighting against PM Modi. My fight is against Modi’s ideology and the violence that he pursues apart from his mission to break India. I am campaigning. I will continue to fight till victory,” the Congress leader said according to news Agency KNO.
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have an age-old culture of love, respect and whatever you want to do for the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be based on love and respect. “If you start your hatred for the people of J&K, nothing can be achieved,” Rahul said clearly in reference to the BJP. He said that earlier, during Covid and after the abrogation of Article 370, he tried to visit J&K but was denied all the time,” he said.
