Adani owned Guwahati Airport’s roof collapsed amid heavy rains

Adani-owned Guwahati Airport, officially known as Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, faced significant damage following a severe storm and heavy rainfall in the region on Sunday. Operations were suspended, leading to the redirection of six flights to alternative destinations, according to a senior official.

The Adani Group took over Guwahati Airport's operations, management, and development responsibilities in 2021. The storm not only impacted the airport but also caused a large tree to uproot at the Oil India complex near the Adani Group-managed facility, resulting in a road blockade, as reported by Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah.

Adani Guwahati Airport roof collapsed

Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah recounted the incident, stating, "The rain and storm lashed the area, blowing away a portion of the roof in the forecourt area. It was very old and could not withstand the impact, causing water to flow inside." Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

Baruah also mentioned that water entered the terminal from the ceiling, prompting the diversion of six flights due to reduced visibility caused by heavy rain and storm conditions.

Unfortunately, this event is not isolated. On May 27, 2023, a section of the airport's ceiling collapsed above the Air India ticket counter, posing risks to employees and travelers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.
