World Green City Award 2022: Hyderabad bags the award AIPH

Hyderabad has won the overall 'World Green City Award 2022' and another in the 'Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth' category at the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) World Green City Awards 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea on October 14.

According to an official statement issued on Friday, Hyderabad is the only Indian city that was selected and it is a source of pride for Telangana and India that it has won not only the category award but also the overall 'World Green City 2022' award, the best in the 6 categories.

The award instituted by the Association Internationale des Producteurs de l’Horticulture seeks to recognize the best practices in landscaping, plant and flower cultivation.

Hyderabad also won the AIPH 'Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth' category award. The award recognized the state's program of 'Telangana Ku Haritha Haram', a large-scale tree planting program that the state has taken over since 2015-16. “The program contemplates increasing the tree cover of the State from 24% to 33% of the total geographic area of ​​the State”, says the award.

A press release indicated that the city was proud to be recognized for its achievements in the field of green living. The Hyderabad Outer Ring Road was featured as one of the entries in the category of "Green Living for Inclusive Growth and Economic Recovery". The objective of this category is to create systems and solutions that help people overcome their economic difficulties. The ORR green belt was considered the best in the competition.

The Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, stated that the award shows that the state government's efforts in implementing various Haritaharam and urban development programs are bearing fruit. It is also a source of pride that Hyderabad was the only Indian city selected for the awards.

The Chief Minister of Telangana also urged state officials and public representatives to continue working towards making Telangana a green state. He said the state government's efforts and commitment to the environment are something the world should be proud of.

K. T. Rama Rao, the Minister of Municipal Administration, also thanked the HMDA officials for their efforts in making the city a living green city.

The award was given to the Telangana government's large-scale tree-planting program known as "Telangana Ku Haritha Haram", which was carried out between 2015 and 2016. The program aims to increase the tree cover of the state by approximately 33%.
