Uttarakhand rains: Ganga water level rises in Rishikesh

Continuous heavy rains in the mountainous areas have caused a significant increase in the water level of Ganga. Ganga is flowing one meter above the danger mark in Rishikesh. The danger mark in Rishikesh stands at 340.50 metres, whereas Ganga's water level has surpassed 341.30 metres.

The highest flood level ever recorded in Rishikesh is touching this level. The disaster of 2013 saw Ganga touching this level. Still, the water level of Ganga is continuing to rise. Media reports state that the Rishikesh area has received around 400 millimeters of rains in a span of 24 hours.

The State Disaster Response Force personnel have rescued 20 people trapped in the Ambagh area of Uttarakhand's Rishikesh following heavy waterlogging in the area. Additionally, the SDRF has rescued six people, including a pregnant woman, from a house that was submerged due to the overflowing Song river in the Raiwala area of the Dehradun district.

A local hospital shifted the pregnant woman. Heavy rains in Uttarakhand since Sunday have disrupted normal life in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, and Dehradun districts among other areas.

Officials said on Monday that the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has directed to temporarily stop the ongoing Char Dham Yatra till Tuesday as heavy rains continue to lash the north eastern state.

In an order issued on Monday, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority said, "We temporarily stopped the Char Dham Yatra on the 14th and 15th August due to disruption in the movement of traffic caused by landslides after heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand."
