The rain came as a spoilsport at the IPL 2023 final, to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. But, there was a reserve day for the IPL 2023 winner decider match. There is a catch though. The reserve day rule helps the game find a winner. But, on the other hand, it becomes a logistical nightmare.
The Narendra Modi Stadium is the biggest stadium in the world. The capacity of the venue is approx one-lakh individuals. That is a huge number to come to an event, in a city. This IPL might be Mahindra Singh Dhoni’s last IPL too. Hence, there are a large amount of CSK fans buying tickets, and visiting to see their legends.
According to some reports, there were around 1.3 lakh individuals in the stadium. With the delay, all these fans have to find accommodation and manage their travel from the stadium. As easy as it might be, it is not. Money isn’t everyone's luxury. In such situations, the prices of hotels, and small accommodations tend to skyrocket.
On Twitter, there are videos floating around of people in CSK jerseys sleeping on the railway platform.
Not just fans, the delay would also impact Indian players who’d be playing World Test Championship Finals in England. The player includes Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubham Gill, and Md. Shami. Now, these players will get one-day less to acclimatize to the English weather and practice with the red ball.
Match
The match would be played today between Gujarat Titans and Chennai SuperKings. GT would look to create history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the title. On the other hand, CSK would be looking to win the title for the ‘thala’ i.e. Mahindra Singh Dhoni as this would be his last IPL.
According to the current forecast, it is unlikely to rain today. But, the rules in case it rains apply as yesterday i.e. there would be a cut-off time.
