Terrifying images have emerged from Pandoh, located 17 km from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, where the entire market stands submerged in water. The water level of Beas River has surged to a perilous level, causing the blockage of the Chandigarh-Manali road near Pandoh. The rivers' water levels have drastically risen due to heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, resulting in multiple landslide incidents across various locations. The Indian Meteorological Department has declared a red alert for seven districts in Himachal Pradesh.

Current condition in Himachal Pradesh

  • According to IMD, it will continue to rain heavily in Himachal Pradesh for a few days.
  • 7 districts of the state Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur are on red alert
  • 3 districts Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur are on orange alert.
  • Stones falling at many places on the Kullu-Manali road

According to Kullu police, the movement of vehicles from Kullu and Manali towards Atal Tunnel and Rohtang has been completely halted. This is due to the risk of falling stones along several sections of the Kullu-Manali road as a result of heavy rains. Additionally, the water level in Beas river near Ramshila has risen, further contributing to the temporary suspension of vehicular activity.

  • According to ANI, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully rescued six individuals who were stuck in their homes due to the rising water level of a river near Kullu. Additionally, a car was swept away by the strong current of the river.

  • Train movement on Shimla-Kalka heritage rail track is cancelled for today due to ongoing heavy rains and subsequent slides/water logging.
  • A house in Panewali village, located in the Gram Panchayat Madhavani of Kotgarh sub-tehsil in the Rampur area, was tragically struck by a landslide. Among the five individuals residing in the house, Jaichand and his wife Bina Devi sustained minor injuries and have been successfully evacuated. Sadly, Jaichand's son, daughter-in-law, and 11-year-old grandson were unable to survive as they were buried under the landslide.
