Newslaundry report on NDTV’s Mumbai bureau chief is false, says NDTV

On Wednesday, New Delhi Television (NDTV) denied reports that their Mumbai Bureau Chief was asked by the Editor in Chief Sanjay Pugalia to "create a ruckus or change the narrative" at the press conference of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai last month.

NDTV denies these malicious accusations aimed at damaging our reputation and credibility and states that a media publication has released a false story questioning NDTV's credibility. NDTV, as a responsible media house, frequently speaks to reporters and senior editors guide/advise/discuss stories. The channel NDTV clarifies that no one has been asked to "create a ruckus or change the narrative" at a press conference, as alleged maliciously. NDTV further states that it will continue to report all stories in an objective, independent, and unbiased manner.

report by digital portal newslaundry, citing sources inside the channel, had reported that the Editor had pressurised the channel's Mumbai bureau chief for asking troubling questions to Gandhi, which led to his resignation.

The news laundry reported that NDTV's Editor-in-Chief, Sanjay Pugalia, pressured Sohit Mishra, the Mumbai bureau chief of NDTV, to step down from the media organization after faced pressure. The instructions allegedly encompassed causing commotion at the event hosted by the former Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, and attempting to manipulate the narrative.

Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Pugalia joined NDTV after Gautam Adani's AMG Media Network acquired the media house, and it's worth noting.

On September 13, NDTV released a statement on Twitter, now X, saying, "We strongly deny" the accusations that our leadership had sought to "create a ruckus or change the narrative" at a press conference.
