In Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, police arrested four people, including a minor’s brother, on Monday for rape of a girl. The matter came to light after the girl gave birth on Sunday night.
Station House Officer SHO of Padukalan Police Station Narottam Singh said, “The girl is 14 years old and unmarried. The case came to light when the girl and her family reached the Zana Hospital in Ajmer on Sunday, where the doctors informed us that the mother was a minor after delivering her baby safely.”
Narottam Singh said that the minor, along with his child, is under police and medical supervision. Based on the statements of her family, her brother and three other villagers have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“Her family members admitted that she was raped several times by her brother and three other people from the same village,” he said. When the SHO was asked about the age of the accused, he said that DNA testing of the accused would be done and the newborn would reveal more details.
On an average, 88 cases of rape are registered every day in the country According to a information presented in the Legislative Assembly this year, from January 2019 to January 2020, 2575 rape cases have been registered in the state.
In 2018, 2081 rape cases were reported in the state, out of which 1219 were minors. Of these 41 cases were such, where the age of the victim was less than six years. 80 victims were under 12 years of age. Similarly, 557 children were under 16 years of age.
In 2017 also, there were 1134 minors in 1908 rape cases registered in the state, out of which 47 children were under six years of age. 77 were under 12 and 396 were under 16.
