Interns claim they have been asked to pay for doing Internship in reputed law firms

"Paid Internship," sounds a bit exciting, but it is not as exciting as it sounds. It may come across that the paid internship means getting paid during the internship but no it is not about that at all. About two hours ago several meme pages shared a post about, "paid internship".

The post which is a screenshot of an email a law student has received, reads, "We are pleased to inform you that your application has been selected for e Internship Program (Online) in the month of July, 2022. A warm welcome to the family. The internship shall commence on Monday, 4th July 2022. Detailed guidelines will be sent to you on that day. An internship certificate shall be issued to you after the successful completion of the internship. Moreover, we only have a few slots left we have already as received registrations from more than 23 Universities and Colleges pan India. But before that, we request you to kindly submit a fee of INR 250/-, which will go towards a token of appreciation to the advocates who would take out their valuable time in order to give some valuable and practical knowledge to us.

Sharing the screenshot of the mail he received, the applicant wrote in his post, Yesterday I received this confirmation mail for an Online Internship and amazing thing is that they are charging interns for doing internship… well this can also be called "PAID INTERNSHIP".

Several students and applicants have come forward and said that several reputed organisations have been asking for money for internships from the students. There are also some posts which read, "This is nothing less than the exploitation of students who out of need and necessity of learning and also building up their CVs are compelled to give this internship fee.

No respect for the hard work that students put in and the benefit the Show quo organisation gets from interns making reports for the organisation, doing the research, fieldwork and what not."

It is pertinent to mention that students are often asked to complete their internships during their studies or after that to gain some experience which can help them in near future.
