Ground Report | New Delhi: IFFCO Chairman Balwinder Singh; Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) Chairman Sardar Balwinder Singh Nakai passed away on yesterday evening.

"Deeply saddened and shocked by the passing away of our beloved Sardar Balwinder Singh Nakai ji, Chairman of IFFCO. He was one of the biggest co-operatives. My heartfelt condolences to his family. I pray to the same Guruji to give him heaven and family. Give courage to us to bear this irreparable loss," IFFCO Managing Director and CEO US Awasthi tweeted.

"Sad to learn about the passing away of Sardar Balwinder Singh Nakai, a veteran co-operative and chairman of IFFCO. He was active in the cooperative sector for the last three decades. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti" Home Ministee Amit Shah tweeted.

"Deeply saddened by the demise of our beloved Sardar Balvinder Singh Nakai Ji, Chairman IFFCO. He will always be remembered for his contribution in the cooperation sector for last 3 decades, My deepest condolences to his family & Friends" Mines and Geology Minister Halappa Achar, tweeted.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has also tweeted his shock on news of Nakai’s demise. Tomar wished his family to have strength to bear the shocking news.

It was only a fortnight ago when Nakia sat by the side of the Union Minister at the mega cooperative conference which took place at Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium in Delhi. Nakai had welcomed the Minister in Gurmukhi.

As soon as the news of Nakai’s demise spread, social media was flooded with the condolence messages. ” Deeply Saddened and Shocked. Heartfelt heartfelt condolences to his family. Great loss to #IFFCO and the entire Cooperative Movement of India. I pray to God to give courage to the family to bear this irreparable loss”, wrote many messages like this on social media.

Nakai was 86 years old and was a part of the cooperative movement for the past three decades.

He was also presently the Chairman of Malwa Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative Marketing-cum-Procurement Society Ltd.

Earlier he had served as the Vice President of IFFCO for two terms. Being a farmer himself, Nakai was instrumental in formulating the farmer oriented policies of IFFCO.
