Ground Report | New Delhi: S-400 deployed in Punjab; The first unit of the S-400 air defence missile system capable of deterring any attack from China and Pakistan have been deployed in Punjab. The state-of-the-art air defence missile system procured from Russia has been deployed at one of the five Air Force bases in Punjab.

The Indian Express quoting sources said that it has been deployed at one of the five Indian Air Force airbases in the state, which is close to the Pakistan border. The special thing is that with the deployment of this missile system, there has been a big increase in defence capabilities. The S-400 missile system is capable of neutralizing any attack from a distance of 400 km. It is one of the most advanced systems in the world.

According to officials, the deliveries of the first unit of the S-400 began in November. This defense deal has been done for more than five billion dollars. However, US-India relations were strained after inking major defense contracts with Russia, after which the defense deal became controversial.

The officers and personnel of the Indian Air Force have also received special training to operate the S-400 missile system. The air defence system will strengthen India in the South Asian skies as they will be able to take out enemy aircraft and cruise missiles from a distance of 400 km.

India's deployment will give a major boost to its air defense capability as the weapon system is capable of neutralizing assets from more than 400 km away. The deployed unit is part of five squadrons purchased in 2018.

During his visit to India weeks ago, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Lavrov said the deal was "practically important to ensure India's defense capability".

“So far, everything is proceeding according to plan. Agreements are being fulfilled. We see attempts by the United States to undermine such cooperation and impose its weapons purchases on India and follow American assumptions about how the region should develop,” Lavrov had said.
