‘All concerned advised to remain cautious, from Aug 27-28, weather expected to be partly to generally cloudy’
Amid the ongoing hot summer spell in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Srinagar weather station on Friday advised "concerned" authorities to remain cautious till August 26, saying “rain over higher reaches may generate landslides, flash floods in vulnerable spots at lower catchment areas”.
A Srinagar-based MeT official, according to the Ground Report said that generally cloudy weather was expected with the possibility of intermittent light to moderate rain at scattered places of J&K during the next 24 hours, saying there's “NO” forecast of Heavy Rain.
According to the weather update issued it said that on August 26, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with the possibility of “intermittent light to moderate rain at scattered places”, adding it said that from August 27-28, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy.
“Although there's no forecast of heavy rain, still all concerned are advised to remain cautious during August 25-26th as rain over higher reaches may generate landslides, flash floods in vulnerable spots at lower catchments areas,” he said.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir have been witnessing a hot spell for the last month, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 30°C, while tourist destination Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 23.8°C and Gulmarg recording a maximum temperature of 19.8°C during the last 24 hours.
Forecasting weather and temperature for tomorrow (Saturday), the local MeT office said that for Srinagar there will be mainly clear sky to partly cloudy with temperature around 30°C, while for Jammu weather officials have forecasted partly cloudy sky to light rain/ thunderstorms, saying that the temperature will be around 33°C.
