Mumbai Police has claimed to have closed more than 15 such applications. Police say that these applications were inspired by an app called 'Hotshots', which was earlier allegedly owned by actor Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra. His former manager Umesh Kamat has also been arrested by the Crime Branch in this case.

According to the report of The Qunit, in December 2020, when the Maharashtra Cyber ​​Crime Department sent a notice to big apps like Alt Balaji for showing explicit content. The Maharashtra Cyber ​​Police Department had registered a case against streaming service Alt Balaji and several production houses, directors, and actors for allegedly airing obscene material.

The police invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code, the IT Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act in the FIR against 13 streaming services of the time. When the investigation was halted for a while due to the pandemic, several other OTT platforms came to the fore.

A small-time model turned producer and her husband were the brains behind this 'Adult OTT' business model, both of whom were already part of the showbiz industry.

The modus operandi application was available on the Play Store and one could get it for a monthly subscription of Rs 199. They will spend Rs 1 lakh on a 30-minute episode and around Rs 4-5 lakh per episode. They used to upload at least two to three videos in a week. With a subscription of Rs 199, HotHit soon garnered millions of subscribers.

Mumbai CP said in a press statement, “In February 2021, a case was registered in Crime Branch Mumbai regarding production of obscene films and publishing them through certain apps. We have booked Mr. Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7 /21. As he appears to be the main conspirator. We have sufficient evidence in this regard.

According to Crime Branch, Raj Kundra is a relative of Pradeep Bakshi, who lives in Britain. He also has a UK-based company named Kenrin Production House. Pradeep Bakshi is also a business partner of Raj Kundra apart from being his relative and chairman of this company.
