Ground Report | New Delhi: Aamir Khan-Kiran Rao announce divorce; The 15-year marriage of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao has broken down. Both have announced to end their relationship. Aamir divorced his first wife Reena and married Kiran Rao for the second time. The two wrote, 'During our 15 years together, we lived every moment with joy and our relationship continued to grow with trust, respect, and love. Now we will start a new chapter in our life – which will not be like husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other. We had planned our separation a while back and now we are comfortable with this separate living arrangement. We will continue to be co-parents to son Azad and will take care of him together.

Apart from films and our Paani Foundation, we will continue to work together on all projects that interest us. Thanks to our friends and families for their continued support during this time, without their support we would not have been able to make this decision. We expect our well-wishers to see this divorce as not the end, but the beginning of a new journey like us.

Aamir meeting with Kiran on sets of film 'Lagaan

In an interview, Aamir had told that his first meeting with Kiran was on the sets of the film 'Lagaan' when she was an assistant director.

Aamir had said- 'One day Kiran got a call and talked to her for 30 minutes. After the conversation with Kiran, why did I jump with joy? I could feel the happiness inside me. After that phone call, I started dating Kiran. We dated each other for 1-2 years and we stayed together. Then I realized that I cannot imagine my life without him. The best thing about her is that she is a strong woman. Then I named my relationship and got married.

Kiran and Aamir have a son named Azad and he is 10 years old. Azad was born through surrogacy. The decision of surrogacy was taken due to Kiran's difficulty in conceiving, after which Azad was born in 2011
