Ground Report | New Delhi: Indian-origin leaders in Canada; The minority government of Justin Trudeau was running on the New Democratic Party in the last term, whose leader is Jagmeet Singh of Indian origin. Trudeau has once again won the election but he may have to take the support of Jagmeet Singh again. Trudeau, 49, has won or is leading in 156 seats, which is less than the 170 seats needed for a majority.

This time 17 leaders of Indian origin are reaching the Canadian Parliament. Apart from Jagmeet Singh, Harjit Singh Sajjan, who was Defense Minister in the current government, also included who became the first Defense Minister of Indian origin in Canada.
Jagmeet Singh’s victory
Congratulating Justin Trudeau, Jagmeet Singh said that he will continue to fight for the common man. He said, “We will continue the fight to ensure that the rich make their due contribution. We will continue to fight for you. We have seen you. We have heard your stories. We will fight for you.”

Jagmeet Singh has won the election with nearly 40 percent votes. At his party program after counting, he said, “I want to tell all Canadians that you can count on the New Democrats to keep fighting for you. Just like we fought for you when people are struggling during a pandemic.” and were worried about their future.”
Large stake in the Liberal Party
Defense Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan has won from the Vancouver South seat. According to CTV News, he has been re-elected from this seat with close to 49 percent votes, which is a bigger victory than the last time. The gentleman grew up here and still calls it his home.
Anita Anand of the Liberal Party won the election from Oakville with 46 percent of the vote, a major achievement for her as Vaccine Minister. Last time she reached Parliament for the first time but she got important responsibility during the pandemic.
Other leaders of Indian origin who won the election include Kamal Kheda, Ruby Sahota, Sonia Sidhu, Maninder Sidhu and Sukh Dhaliwal from the Liberal Party. George Chahal, Arif Virani, Randeep Sarai, Anju Dhillon, Chandra Arya and first-timer Iqwinder Gahir have also won elections from the Liberal Party.
Tim Uppal and Jasras Singh from the Conservative Party managed to save their seats. About 1.6 million people of Indian origin live in Canada, which is about three percent of the country’s population.
