Ricky Gervais Anti Trans jokes in Netflix Special, faces backlash

Ricky Gervais' New Netflix Comedy Special SUPERNatural Faces Backlash For Harmful Comments About Transgender Community.

Gervais premiered Ricky Gervais: SuperNature for Netflix on Tuesday and from the first minutes the comedian referred to trans people as "new women" and then pretended to have a fictional conversation where the comedian also made fun of the use of pronouns, the use of bathrooms and the term “TERF”, an acronym that stands for “transexclusive radical feminist”, which has been used pejoratively to refer to feminist groups that exclude trans women from their circles

Ricky Gervais said, Oh, women! Not all women, I mean the old-fashioned ones. You know old-fashioned women YOu know the ones with wombs? Those Fu*king dinosaurs, Now I love the new women, I know the new women, they're great aren't they? You know the new ones we've seen lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They're as good as gold. I lobe them

“I love new women. The new ones we've been seeing lately. The ones with the beard and penis. They are as good as gold, I love them. 'Oh, they want to use our toilets.' 'Why shouldn't they use their toilets?' 'For ladies!' They are ladies, look at their pronouns! What about this person who is not a lady?' 'Well, her penis.' 'His penis, you f fanatic!' 'What if she rapes me?' 'What if she rapes you, you f TERF?'”

On SuperNature, Gervais comments about trans women, saying, “The new ones we've been seeing lately. The ones with beards and c-ks. They are as good as gold, I love them.”

"Like, the worst thing you can say today, to get canceled on Twitter, the worst thing you can say today is, 'Women don't have penises,' right?" he said, noting that it's not easy to "predict what will be offensive" to others. “Now, no one saw it coming. You won't find a ten-year-old tweet from someone saying, "Women don't have penises." You know why? We didn't think we had to!

The comedian ended the special by noting that he supports the trans community despite his jokes. Gervais said that in real life he supports trans rights because he supports all human rights. And he also assured that it is okay for them to use whatever pronouns they prefer. However, in the end he made a transphobic joke again by joking about sex reassignment surgeries:

“In real life, of course I support trans rights. I support all human rights, and trans rights are human rights. You know, live your best life. Use your preferred pronouns. Be the gender you feel you are. But meet me halfway, ladies. Take off your penis. That's all I'm saying".
