Minor girl raped, dumped on roadside in MP, locals turn a blind eye

A mentally-challenged minor girl in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain was brutally raped, and people's apathy was faced by her as she was left semi-naked on the roadside seeking help.

Now, people on social media are circulating a video of the minor girl who asked for help after being raped, while people standing nearby shooed her away. The horrific rape case occurred near Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain, where the girl suffered sexual assault and perpetrators dumped her near the city's Dandi Ashram.

CCTV camera caught the visuals of the incident, and the girl stumbled on the street covered in blood wearing torn clothes that barely covered her. People in a residential area saw her walking and asking for help, and a man was seen shooing her away.

The girl was eventually spotted by the staff of a nearby temple and the priest suspected that she had been raped. Covering her with a towel, the priest rushed her to the nearby hospital. However, the victim’s injuries were severe so she had to be transferred to Indore.

According to an official, they found the girl here on September 25 and believe she probably comes from neighboring Uttar Pradesh. However, her identity has yet to be established as she is unable to properly provide her name and address to the police.

Senior Ujjain police officer Deepika Shinde inquired about the girl's name and address, but she couldn't respond coherently. The police have filed a rape case against unidentified perpetrators, invoking the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Ujjain Police Chief Sachin Sharma confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits. He urged the public to contact the police with any information.

This incident has generated political controversy in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, with the Congress questioning the law and order situation and women's safety under the BJP government. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath condemned the incident and called for severe punishment for the accused. He also demanded the state government provide one crore rupees in financial assistance to the victim.

"It is heartbreaking to witness such a cruel case of abuse against a young girl in Ujjain. The nature of the rape suffered by a 12-year-old girl, her desperate attempt to seek help while semi-nude and subsequently collapsing on the road, is a disgrace to humanity. Such a heinous incident tarnishes the reputation of the administration and society," said Kamal Nath.
