Yashwant Sinha, who was finance and foreign minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, joined the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Saturday.
Yashwant Sinha was angry with BJP since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. During this resentment, he also left the party.
However, Yashwant Sinha's son Jayant Sinha is still in the BJP and he is an MP from Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand. He was also made a minister in the first term of the Modi government.
Yashwant Sinha has been attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi continuously.
Before joining TMC, Yashwant Sinha met Mamata Banerjee at her residence. After the meeting, Sinha attacked the Modi government at the center fiercely.
Sinha said, "The country is standing at the crossroads. The values we trust are at risk. All institutions including the judiciary are being weakened. This is an important battle for the whole country. This is not a political fight but a fight to save democracy.
Yashwant Sinha said, "Mamta ji and I worked together in the government of Atal ji. Mamta ji has been a fighter since the beginning. Today I want to tell you that there was a discussion in the cabinet one day when the Indian Airlines plane was hijacked and when the terrorists took it to Kandahar.
In the same discussion, Mamta ji said that she herself will go there as a hostage, but the condition will be that those who are remaining hostage should be released. "
Mamta Banerjee was then the railway minister in the Atal government.
On the occasion of joining Yashwant Sinha TMC, "You all must be wondering why I had separated myself from party politics at this age, then I am getting active by joining a party."
In today's time the country is going through a state of amazing change. Till now, the values which we used to give importance to and used to think that everyone in the democracy would implement it, those values are in danger today. We are all aware that the power of democracy is the institutions of democracy. Today, almost every institution has become weak and it is a matter of regret that the judiciary is also involved in it.''
Sinha said, "There is no one to curb the arbitrariness of the government." This biggest danger has arisen for our country. Democracy does not mean elections and votes in just five years. This means that those who come and work for the people. Farmers are worried today, but no one is worried. We have all seen how the workers migrated. Education, health are all going through a difficult day today and the government has no worries."
Sinha said, "There are going to be elections in Bengal and there is no doubt that TMC will come back with a majority and a message should go from Bengal that the country will not tolerate it now." The country will no longer tolerate what Modi and Shah are driving from Delhi."
