Recent heavy rains in Saudi Arabia have brought about a remarkable transformation in parts of the desert between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The previously barren and dry land has transformed into lively shades of green, thanks to an abundance of water revitalizing the once parched terrain.
How is Saudi Arabia turning green?
After experiencing substantial rainfall recently, a portion of Saudi Arabia's vast desert expanse, situated between the revered cities of Mecca and Medina, has undergone a remarkable transformation.
“After heavy rains, parts of Saudi Arabia’s desert near Mecca and Medina have turned green. This transformation, particularly in the West, is due to excess water, leading to the growth of grass and plants. Photos show camels grazing on fresh grass, and once arid areas are now vibrant with colour. This unusual sight has also been visible from NASA satellites,” reads the post on Instagram.
Images taken after the rainfall depict camels peacefully grazing on new grass, a rare sight in these dry regions. Posted by @millionaressteps, the post garnered considerable views and engagement. Once barren areas now flourish with vegetation, adding vibrant green patches to the desert scenery, contrasting beautifully with the golden sands.

Indeed God knows the beginning and the end. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
