Why Pewdiepie is trending after the SC order on the US Abortion ban?

As the United States Supreme Court overturned one of its own earlier rulings, stripping it of its constitutional right to abortion. Swedish YouTuber Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie is trending on social media and Netizens blame Pewdiepie for promoting Nazism by having Ben Shapiro on his channel.

A Twitter user wrote "The fact people are shocked and angry Pewdiepie is on there is an entire generation that forgot he literally has said racist things on stream and yelled the N-word multiple times. Not to mention he has said incredibly anti-semetic things and still does".

Another user tweeted, Pewdiepie was so staunchly anti-SJW in the past. then raising money for George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. I’m confused on his politics but I haven’t watched him in like two years.

Pewdiepie Controversy

In most of his videos, PewDiePie has increasingly turned into a troubling use of Nazi imagery and anti-Semitic comedy in his videos.

And while his loyal fan base staunchly defends his work as satirical in nature, the frequency and seeming lack of a larger purpose for these hateful elements have raised serious concerns.

In February 2017, the Wall Street Journal (WSI) published a story about PewDiePie, the most subscribed YouTuber, claiming that he supports anti-Semitic ideology in his videos. The most infamous of these included an incident where PewDiePie tried out the Fiverr service and paid $5 for Indian independent actors to laugh and display a sign reading "Death to all Jews" on January 11, 2017.

As a result of the February 14, 2017, WSI story, PewDiePie lost his financial deals with his creator network, Maker Studios, and the Google Preferred advertising program. PewDiePie (also known as Felix Kjellberg, then 28-year-old Swede) was quick to deny that the videos of him were racist or offensive.

Instead, he blamed WSI for not understanding the tongue-in-cheek nature of his videos and said they were taking his jokes out of context. He also claimed that WSI had a limited understanding of Internet culture and that they envied him for his popularity.

Is PewDiePie racist?

In September 2017, PewDiePie uttered a racial slur in a now-deleted video. He was playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and called his enemy a racial slur when his shots didn't kill their enemy immediately, allowing them to take cover. PewDiePie immediately caught on to what he said and apologized on stream, but this was not enough to reassure viewers of him.

The media quickly picked up on the incident and reported on PewDiePie's use of the slur, making him the subject of mainstream media for weeks. The fact that PewDiePie didn't consider not uploading the video, knowing that he uttered a racial slur, ended up being his biggest mistake.

This incident led many of PewDiePie's patrons to cut ties with him, which later led to the cancellation of YouTuber Scare PewDiePie's YouTube Red series.
