People on social media strongly criticized Supreme Court on Twitter. Advocate, Prashant Umrao wrote on Twitter "when the Sedition cases were filed against journalists Arnab Goswami & Amish Devgan, Supreme Court denied quashing FIR and asked them to go to the concerned High Court. But in the Sedition case against Vinod Dua, FIR is quashed without asking him to go to the High Court".

Now even after the cancellation of the sedition case against him, many people have called it a big victory on Twitter

Ground Report | New Delhi: Arnab Goswami, Vinod Dua: The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the sedition case filed against senior journalist Vinod Dua in Himachal Pradesh, saying a citizen has the right to criticize or comment on the steps or measures taken by the government and its authorities. This right, as long as it does not incite violence against the Government or with intent to cause public disorder. All journalists are protected by the apex court's decision in the year 1962 in the Kedarnath Singh case. 

What's the matter?

The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the sedition case filed against senior journalist Vinod Dua in Himachal Pradesh, saying a citizen has the right to criticize or comment on the steps or measures taken by the government and its authorities.

Senior journalist Vinod Dua has got relief from the Supreme Court and the sedition case registered against him has been quashed. After the complaint of the BJP leader, a case was registered against Dua in Himachal Pradesh under sedition sections. After this, all the journalists and intellectuals strongly criticized this action taken against Vinod Dua.

Senior journalist Vinod Dua has been continuously raising questions about the policies and functioning of the central government. He had released videos through his YouTube channel regarding the citizenship law and many such issues. On one such video, a case was registered against Dua on the complaint of BJP leader Ajay Shyam.

A case was registered against Vinod Dua on the charges of IPC Section 124A (Sedition), Section 268 (Public nuisance), Section 501 (Printing defamatory things), and Section 505 (Intent to cause public mischief). There was an FIR against him in Delhi also.

Now even after the cancellation of the sedition case against him, many people have called it a big victory on Twitter. Pritish Nandy, a journalist, poet, and politician, expressed happiness over Vinod Dua's relief from the Supreme Court, as well as criticized the sedition law. He wrote on Twitter, "Very good news... the sedition law itself should be repealed. It is a part of the colonial period. Which is not right for independent India. Supreme Court quashes sedition case against Vinod Dua, says 1962 order protects every journalist from all such charges.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra also tweeted about this relief to Vinod Dua. He wrote that the direction of the wave is changing. The Supreme Court has quashed the sedition case against Vinod Dua. Apart from these, many journalists and others also expressed happiness about Vinod Dua's case and criticized this action of the police.
