Ground Report | New Delhi: Why Justice For Zeeshan Malik is trending; On February 14, 18-year-old Zeeshan Malik’s family received the news of his demise when they reached Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after a phone call from Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Hari Nagar Police Station, Neranjan. Kumar claimed that Malik was unwell and was admitted to the hospital.

Maktoob Media quoted Malik’s sister Nargis as saying, “My mother fainted after seeing my brother’s body.” The police had informed the relatives that the young man has chest pain and his brain’s vein has burst. Malik who was a repairman lived in the slums of Preet Vihar and was detained on November 20, 2021, for allegedly stealing a pack of cigarettes.
Malik was lodged in Tihar Jail since November on charges of stealing cigarette packets. While police officials say Malik died due to “illness”, his family alleges custodial murder and cited bruises and broken bones as evidence.
Malik, a car repairman, lived in JJ Colony, a slum in East Guru Angad Nagar, Preet Vihar. On 20 November 2021, he was detained by the Preet Vihar police for his alleged involvement in the theft of cigarette packets.
Twitter user wrote “14 February 2022, Zeeshan Malik,an 18 yr old Muslim youth died in Tihar Jail with injuries of torture,Jail authorities say Malik died due to illness,his family alleges custodial murder in #Tihar Jail and cite bruise marks and broken bones as proof.”
Another user said “On the instructions of AIMIM President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi AIMIM Delhi President @KaleemulHafeez today meet Zeeshan Malik parents to console and assure full support from the party also he said Muslim are not even save in jail under HM and CM rule.”
