A Rourkela businessman died on Thursday after jumping off a hotel building in Jamshedpur. The deceased, identified as Rahul Agarwal, has accused his wife and in-laws of harassing his family by registering a false case of dowry against them.
Rahul started a happy married life, but within a few days the happiness vanished. Dowry poisoning created a rift in the married life and with the period of litigation, life got derailed. Seeing no way, Rahul chose the path of death.
A video went viral on social media in which Rahul alleged that his elderly parents were suffering as he had to approach the courts as his in-laws were misusing the law against him.
He also said that the Jamshedpur police did not hear his side and acted on the allegations levelled by his in-laws.
Rahul made seven videos of 22 minutes in a hotel room in which he told the reason for his suicide to Varsha Churiwala and her family members. He has said in the video that after his death, the ashes should be kept in the bank's locker and not immersed till he gets justice. Rahul has also sent a suicide note to his brother in Rourkela through courier which is yet to be recovered. Today the police will hand over the dead body of Rahul to the relatives after the post-mortem.
Rahul further alleged that Varsha's parents and brothers used to interfere and break up their marriage even after their children were born.
It is learned that Rahul had gone to Jamshedpur to meet his son and daughter and stayed in a hotel in Sonari police station area. After this, Rahul committed suicide by jumping from the hotel, informed Jamshedpur Police.
Family members and CCTV footage are being examined till the final report comes. Meanwhile, the in-laws could not be contacted regarding Rahul's allegations.
