Ground Report | New Delhi: Delhi Government teachers; Delhi university teacher's and non-teaching staff from various DU colleges are not receiving their salaries since November 2020. Among the DU colleges, only 12 received full grants from Delhi Government. The colleges said that they cannot pay the salaries of the teachers because of the insufficient funds by the AAP led Delhi government.
The teachers of Delhi University have been facing this problem for two years and is a fluctuating one. Over 1500 teachers and 2000 staff members have to depend on their life's savings to survive.
Maharaja Agrasen college is one of the worst hit colleges of Delhi University.
Bhupendar Choudhary, a history teacher has said that they did not receive the salaries since June. After pleading for several months and submitting letters only a month salary was received by them.
The remaining months' salaries are pending. A professor who does not want to be known or share his identity said that the non-permanent teachers and non-teaching staff are facing problems in managing the daily expenses.
Also, many contractual employees of many colleges are facing the same problem to survive as they receive a meagre salary of ₹15,000 a month.
A Petition by the teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges have been sent to the (L-G) Anil Bijal to solve this issue. They have faced severe hardships because of the irregular payment of salaries since the Covid -19 pandemic in 2020.
The Delhi Government in due course has agreed to pay their salary up to February that including pending allowances arrears medical and other facilities. This was referred to by many crises as a strategy for the upcoming elections.
