Ground Report | New Delhi: Why Chhattisgarh CM's Father Nand; Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's father Nand Kumar Baghel was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a community. The action comes after a controversy over Baghel's father's alleged remarks against the Brahmin community.

I respect my father says CM

The Chief Minister had said that he was "hurt" by such remarks and said that no one is above the law in his government and the police will take appropriate action in the matter.

"I respect my father as a son, but as a chief minister, none of his mistakes, which are going to disturb public order, can be ignored. In our government, no one is above the law. No, even if he is the father of the Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel said.

In the complaint, the community alleged that Nand Kumar Baghel described Brahmins as "outsiders (foreigners) who must either reform or be ready to move from the Ganges to the Volga". The FIR has been registered under sections 505 and 153 of the IPC.

DD Nagar police station in-charge Yogita Khaparde said, “The Brahmin community objected to the statement of Nand Kumar Baghel and complained to the police that he has been accused of creating tension and spreading hatred in the society.”

Why Chhattisgarh CM's Father Nand got arrested?

On Saturday, the Brahmin community took out a rally and demanded action against Nand Kumar Baghel as the BJP was furious against the Chief Minister on this issue.

Sarva Brahmin Samaj has lodged a complaint against this remark of Nand Kumar Baghel, after which a case has been registered against Nand Kumar Baghel in DD Nagar police station of Raipur. A case has been registered against Nand Kumar Baghel under sections 505 and 153A of IPC.

Nand Kumar Baghel, father of CM Bhupesh Baghel, while talking to the media in a program organized in Lucknow last month, described the Brahmins as foreigners and said that like the British, they too will have to run away one day. Due to this the anger of the Brahmin society boiled.
