The ECB has issued a statement, “After talks with the BCCI, the ECB confirms that the fifth Test match between the England and India men’s team, which was to be played at Old Trafford from today, has been cancelled.”
“This decision has been taken due to the fear of increasing Covid cases in the camp, India is regretfully unable to field their team.” “We apologize to our fans and partners for this news because we know it will cause great disappointment and inconvenience to many.”
Who won Test series
First the news came that the England Cricket Board is saying that since the match has been canceled due to Corona in the Indian team, India should forfeit the match i.e. give a walkover. If this happens, England will get one point and the series will be level with two. The ECB’s argument behind this is that since the Indians have refused to play the match, England should be declared the winner.
Since it is the period of Corona, then there will be a possibility of such a disaster already. Therefore, India should not be blamed for the cancellation of the match. In such a situation, India will win the series 2-1.
Since the cancellation of the match is like a natural disaster, then both the boards may decide that this match should be postponed for the time being and the winner or result of the series should be declared whenever it happens next. Since there is a good relationship in ECB-BCCI, then a mutual decision is expected.
