Who was Russian Major General Vitaly Gerasimov Killed in Ukraine

Ground Report | New Delhi: Who was Russian Major General Vitaly Gerasimov; Ukraine's Defense Ministry said on Monday, March 7, that the Army had killed another high-ranking Russian general. He would be the second general to be killed since Russia's invasion of Ukrainian territory began.

"This is the Russian general Vitaly Gerasimov. Another loss among the senior command staff of the occupation army. During the fighting near Kharkiv, Vitaly Gerasimov, a Russian military leader, major general, chief of staff, and first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Russian Central Military District, was killed. Several senior officers of the Russian army were also killed and wounded," the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported.

Gerasimov participated in the second Chechen war, the Russian military operation in Syria, and the annexation of Crimea, earning medals from those campaigns. If confirmed, Gerasimov would be the second Russian general from the 41st Army to die within a week in Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. In early March, Russian media confirmed that his deputy commander, Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky, had been killed.

The loss of high-ranking officers came at a time when much of Putin's invasion force has been bogged down by logistical problems, low morale and Ukrainian resistance. The failure of his encrypted communications system could be another blow.

The news of the death of  Andrey Sukhovetsky on February 28  shook the Russian government and generated a strong blow. The highest-ranking soldier in the Russian Army was killed by a Ukrainian sniper during the second week of the war in Europe.
