Ground Report | New Delhi: Who is Vir Das; Popular Indian stand-up comedian Vir Das on Monday posted his latest video 'I come from to India' on his YouTube channel. The video is of his performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. At the end of his performance, he gave a monologue about the contradictions within the country under the section To India. The video has divided people. While on one hand there is a section of people who are praising his performance, some people are hurt by his action.
Who is Vir Das
Mr Das, who is currently in the US, uploaded a video on YouTube titled "I two come from India" on Monday, as part of his recent performance at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC. In the six-minute video, Mr Das talks about the country's duality and mentions some of India's most current issues, from its fight against COVID-19, incidents of rape, action against comedians to farmers' including protests.
He wrote, "There has been a huge reaction to a video I posted on YouTube. The video is a satire about the duality of two different Indias that act differently. Like light and darkness in any country." There is good and evil in him. Neither of these is a mystery."
‘Do Not Be Fooled by Edited Snippets'
“The video appeals to us to never forget that we are great. Never stop focusing on what makes us great. It culminates in a huge patriotic round of applause for a country we all love, trust and are proud of. That in our country there is more than the headlines, a deep beauty. That is the essence of the video and is the reason for the applause."
At the end of the above video, Vir Das is seen asking the audience to give a standing ovation to the nation. Explaining the same, he added in his post, “People cheer for India with hope, not hate. People clap for India out of respect and not with malice. You can't just sell tickets with pride, earn accolades, or represent great people with negativity. I am proud of my country, and I carry that pride around the world. For me, anywhere in the world, a room full of people, cheering for India is pure love."
He said, "Please don't be fooled by edited excerpts. People cheer for India with hope, not hate. People clap for India with respect, not malice. You can't sell tickets, on applause." , or cannot represent great people with negativity, only with pride."
"I ask you the same thing I asked the audience…to focus on the light, remember our greatness and spread the love."
Now, Two complaints have been filed against comedian Vir Das for "derogatory statements against India" on Tuesday, November 16. One was lodged with the Mumbai Police by High Court lawyer Ashutosh Dubey, who serves as legal advisor to the BJP-Maharashtra Palghar district. Another case has been registered at Delhi's Tilak Marg police station, ANI reported.
Complaints have been filed regarding Das's monologue show I Come From To India's, a clip of which was uploaded on YouTube by the comedian on Monday. The show was originally screened at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
