Ground Report | New Delhi: Vikram Misri, who served as the Indian Ambassador to China for three years, has been appointed as India's next Deputy National Security Advisor or Deputy NSA.
He will replace Pankaj Saran, who will continue in the post till December 31. Saran has been India's ambassador to Russia and Bangladesh.
On the other hand, Misri was the ambassador of China at a time when relations between India and China were going through a very delicate phase.
India and China had a border standoff on the Line of Control in Ladakh for 19 months and talks are still going on between China and India over the process of separation at some places.
Who is Vikram Misri
Born in Srinagar, Vikram Misri is a 1989 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service. After studying at Scindia School, he graduated from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He also has an MBA degree and worked in the field of advertising and ad film production for three years before joining the civil service.
He also served as India's ambassador to Myanmar and Spain before becoming the ambassador of China in the year 2019. Pradeep Kumar Rawat has been appointed as the new Ambassador of India to China in place of Mishri. He is a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and is proficient in the Mandarin language.

After becoming the ambassador of China, in the year 2020, there was a fierce clash between India and China in the Galvan Valley of Ladakh, in which many soldiers of both sides died. After this, the relations between the two countries remained very tense.
Worked with three prime ministers
It is not that Mishri has returned to the center for the first time. Misri, 57, has previously worked in the Prime Minister's Office thrice. First Inder Kumar Gujral, then Manmohan Singh and then for a short time he worked with the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Misri was the Private Secretary to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from October 2012 to May 2014, while from May 2014 to July 2014 he was the Private Secretary to the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was the Under Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs from November 1996 to April 1997 during the tenure of the then External Affairs Minister IK Gujral. Later, when Gujral became the Prime Minister, Misri was his private secretary from April 1997 to March 1998.
