Who is Sadar Jafar

Actor and activist Sadaf Jafar, who was "kicked in the stomach by a policeman" after being arrested during anti-citizenship law protests in Lucknow in December 2019, will take part in next month's Uttar Pradesh elections from the (central) seat of Lucknow on a Congress Ticket.

Facebook session during a protest against the CAA-NRC. She was booked on charges of attempted murder, riots, criminal conspiracy, assault on a public servant, etc. She was also among the activists whose posters were put up on prominent crossroads in Lucknow by the UP government, which described them as "troublemakers". She had also received the recovery notice from the government asking him to pay for property damage during the protests that had turned violent. After being declared a candidate for Congress from the Lucknow Central constituency, Jafar said the government crackdown could not "scare" activists like her.

Jafar turned to activism in hopes of fighting the rising tide of intolerance and fear, but realized that without position and power, there was little he could do to bring about systemic change.
