Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh was booked and later arrested for his alleged derogatory comments against the Prophet Muhammad. It has been booked under Sections 295(A), 153(A) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, said DCP South Zone, Hyderabad, P Sai Chaitanya.
An FIR was registered against him after protests broke out on Monday at various places in Hyderabad, including the South Zone DCP office, demanding action against him.
In an alleged video circulated on social media, Singh could be heard making offensive comments about Islam and Muslims.
In a 10.27-minute video, titled ‘Farooqui Ke Aaka Ka Ithihas Suniye’, shared via Shree Ram Channel Telangana on Monday night, Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh can be seen talking about comedian Munawar Faruqui and his comedy shows. . Without mentioning names, Singh repeats comments made by former BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma, which escalated into an international dispute that led to his suspension.
“This is the first video where I have spoken like this. Which is the reason? Because a person launched abuses against my Lord Ram and Sita Mata. He did a comedy about my gods and today, with no other choice, I’m doing a comedy about your mother. This is my heartbreak,” Singh said in the video.
Singh further said that they should have left him alone and could have seen what would have happened. Stating that he is not afraid of “killing or dying,” Singh concluded the video by saying that he did not like what he said and asked his followers to reflect on the events.
According to various reports, protests erupted outside the office of the city’s police commissioner, CV Anand, and other parts of Hyderabad on Monday night after Singh posted a video allegedly making derogatory comments about the Prophet Muhammad.
The protesters reportedly said that Singh hurt the feelings of the community and demanded his immediate arrest. They were arrested and then transferred to various police stations.
T Raja Singh, the Goshamahal MLA in town, had tried last week to disrupt a comedy show. He was placed in preventive detention by police on Friday when he tried to get to the venue of comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show along with around 50 supporters to cancel it.
Now, Singh has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 153A (promoting enmity between two groups), 295A (deliberate and malicious intent to offend religious sentiments of any kind) and other similar sections at the police station. of Dabeerpura, according to the ANI news agency.
Who is Raja Singh?
Raja Singh was a member of the Telugu Desam Party. He later joined the BJP and is currently the party’s whip in Telangana.
Raja Singh has made several remarks appearing to be targeting the Muslim community.
In 2020, Facebook banned Singh from the platform and Instagram for allegedly promoting hate.
“We have banned Raja Singh from Facebook for violating our policy prohibiting those that promote or engage in violence and hate from having a presence on our platform,” a Facebook spokesperson had said.
However, Singh claimed he had not been on the platform since April 2019.
On August 20 this year, the Hyderabad police detained Singh after he threatened to thrash comedian Munawwar Farooqui if he hosted a show in the city.
