Ground Report | New Delhi: Who is Pooja Shukla; The Samajwadi Party has fielded Pooja Shukla, who was a student leader from Lucknow (North) seat and came into the limelight by showing a black flag to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She is the youngest candidate in the Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

Pooja Shukla has been fielded by cutting the ticket of Abhishek Mishra, who is considered close to Akhilesh Yadav. Abhishek is in the fray from Lucknow's Sarojini-Nagar seat. Pooja Shukla is also a activist. She was arrested in 2017 for waving the black flag to the chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Who is Pooja Shukla?

Pooja Shukla has been a student leader. In the year 2017, she came into the limelight by showing a black flag to the then Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. CM Yogi had reached a program of Lucknow University, where Pooja Shukla opposed him and showed the black flag. A picture of Pooja related to this program also became very viral on social media, in which the police was dragging her.

According to reports, Shukla has been actively campaigning in the Lucknow North constituency even before the SP gave her a ticket from the seat. After, 20 days she was released from jail, where she met patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and became the face of Samajwadi Chatra Sabha, the party’s student wing.

Pooja said that why she choose the Samajwadi party, she was influenced by the party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and the policies of Akhilesh Yadav.

Pooja said, that she was denied affirmation by the Lucknow College in 2018 for challenging the central clergyman. This, nonetheless, didn't deter her spirits and she sent off an endless yearning strike constraining the college to acknowledge her confirmation.

During the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act Shukla was one of the protestors. She says the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since the time comes to control has passed laws that are “undemocratic”, including the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the ranch laws.

She came from a middle-class family to fight against the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) with the support of the youngsters and by the party. As a youngster who has been active in student politics, I find SP closer to democratic values, something which the BJP and its supporters are hell-bent on violating,” she told the news agency. Shukla wants to continue fighting for the rights of students and youngsters.

For her actions, Shukla and others were arrested and sent to jail the other day. All the accused were booked and charged under subsequent sections of the Indian Penal Court. Later on, Shukla was released after 20 days on the condition of furnishing two sureties of Rs 40,000 each and a personal bond of the same amount.

"We were arrested and sent to jail the next day. This happened despite using democratic means to protest. I had never thought we would be arrested but it reaffirmed my faith in fighting for what is right," Shukla recalled the incident.
