Ground Report | New Delhi: Who is Nirmala Maghani; Nirmala Maghani's legal team on Monday served Coke Studio producer Zulfikar Khan, popularly known as Xulfi, with a legal notice worth Rs. 100 million for a copyright violation of her song Tu Jhoom.
The notice states that Nirmala had submitted 'Tu Mera Ranjha' compositions in June 2021 hoping to get the big break from her, but Xulfi did not respond to her.
The notice claimed that Maghani sent her compositions including 'Tu Mera Ranjha' compositions on June 14, 2021 through WhatsApp Messenger on Xulfi's mobile, all in the form of voice notes.
Coke Studio's season 14 song 'Tu Jhoom' was affected by a controversy over plagiarism allegations that were attributed to Adnan Dhool (writer), Xulfi (narrative, composer, arranger and producer) and Abdullah Siddiqui (co-producer).
On January 14, 2022, when Coke Studio's song "Jhoom" was released, Maghani was shocked to hear that the song was the note of "Tu Mera Ranjha".
"
"Your act of copying the notes and composition of my client's song 'Tu Mera Ranjha' for the Coke Studio 14 performed by singer named Naseebo Lal and Abida Parveen without any legal right and permission from my client is a wilful and intentional infringement of right of my client and is a blatant violation of the copyright laws of Pakistan."
