Ground Report | New Delhi: Who is Nikhil Kamat?; Nikhil Kamat, the co-founder of the country's largest trading brokerage firm Zerodha and one of the country's youngest billionaires, is once again in the limelight.  An online chess match played for charity between five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand and India's Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on Sunday expected everyone to be a one-sided match and raise a lot of money for the needy. But the result that came took everyone by surprise.

Contrary to expectations, Kamath defeated Anand to win. His victory was doubted by many experts and Kamath was later found guilty of not following the rules of the game. After this, he was trolled fiercely on social media, and in the end, he had to apologize. Know the journey of Nikhil Kamat from school dropout to becoming the youngest billionaire in the country.

He tweeted clarifying and said, 'It is nonsense to think that you really defeated Viswanathan Anand. It's like they wake up in the morning and think of defeating Usain Bolt in 100 meters race. He admitted that during the match several people were together for analysis and computers were also used. Kamath said, 'I was fooled and I could not understand what kind of confusion could be created by this. Apologies for this.'

Viswanathan Anand also tweeted on his clarification. He said, 'Yesterday was a celebrity simul for people to raise money It was a fun experience upholding the ethics of the game. I just played the position on the board and expected the same from everyone.'

Who is Nikhil Kamat?

Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of stockbroking company Zerodha Broking Ltd is one of the youngest billionaires of India but very few people would know that he started trading at the age of 17 after dropping out of school. His story is no less than the script of a superhit film. Nikhil also used to bunk school like some children, used to play with friends and because of this, he did not feel like studying.

When he was just 14 years old, he got the business idea and started selling old phones with his friends. But his business came to a standstill as soon as his mother came to know. When he was stopped from appearing for the board exams due to low attendance, he dropped out of school.

Zerodha has told in a regulatory filing that the annual salary of the company's founders Nitin Kamat and Nikhil Kamat will be Rs 100 crore. The company's board has passed a special resolution approving annual salaries of up to Rs 100 crore to Nikhil and Nitin Kamat. His basic salary will be Rs 4.17 crore per month along with incentives and allowances of Rs 4.17 crore. In the financial year 2019-20, the annual package of Mukesh Ambani, the country's richest person, was Rs 15 crore. This mainly includes salary and allowances of Rs 4.36 crore.

Chess.com bans Nikhil Kamath for violating Fair-Play Policy

Chess.com India organized 'Checkmate COVID' on its official YouTube channel on June 13, 2021. Pandemic fundraisers raised over ₹10 lakh during the live stream, making the event a huge success. Barring Nikhil Kamath, the celebs who played against Vishy Anand lost the first set. He showed great strategy and was able to find game-changing moves when needed.

After the match ended, the spectators found that Nikhil's Chess.com account was banned for violating the fair-play policy. The news spread like wildfire on Reddit, YouTube and Twitter before Nikhil responded to the fraud allegations.
