K Chellammal a 69-year-old woman is a veteran organic farmer from Andaman and Nicobar. She is known as Nariyal Amma and has developed methods to protect coconut and palm trees from damage. Chellammal also has a 10-acre organic farm where she grows cloves, ginger, pineapples, and bananas.

She grows crops like cloves, ginger, pineapple, and banana on her 10-acre farm. All of her farming practices are organic, which means she doesn’t use any harmful chemicals.

Coconut Amma has not only dealt with her farming but also inspired other farmers. She has motivated more than 150 farmers to adopt organic farming methods. Because of her influence, these farmers have left the conventional farming methods behind and have embraced organic farming.

K Chellammal from South Andaman has successfully transformed a 10-acre plot into a thriving organic farm. This farmer, despite only having a sixth-grade education, has been innovating in the field of agriculture for over six decades with unwavering commitment and enthusiasm.

The farm uses an intercropping method to cultivate a variety of crops, including cloves, ginger, pineapples, and bananas. This approach has not only proven successful but has also inspired more than 150 other farmers to adopt similar practices.

In addition to crop cultivation, the farmer has developed innovative and cost-effective solutions for protecting coconut and palm trees from damage. These measures have led to a significant increase in productivity, with the farm harvesting over 27,000 coconuts per year from a plantation of 460 palms of the Andaman Ordinary Tall variety. This is a testament to the power of innovation and dedication in farming.
