Haugan, 37, had been working at Facebook for nearly two years. She worked on the civil integrity team as a product manager to combat election interference and misinformation. Prior to working at Facebook, she was a member of Google, Pinterest, and Yelp.

Haugen hails from the US state of Iowa and has been associated with Facebook for two years (June 2019 to June 2020).

An interview with Frances Haugen, a former data scientist on the social networking site Facebook, was aired on a TV program, Sixty Minutes. She has previously appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

The revelations in Haughan's interview have been described as "explosive" by social and journalistic circles. These circles say that the interview has uncovered the truth about Facebook and that she is a 'whistleblower'. She called Facebook "worse" than many other social networking platforms.

Ignoring social harms

Frances Haugen stated in her interview that her former organization is aware of the research that the content of her subsidiary Instagram has caused severe mental and physical damage to teenage girls in relation to their physical well-being.

According to Haugen, the Instagram platform set a double standard for society, one for celebrities and the other for the general public. She says that Facebook has caused great social harm by misusing this platform. In her interview, Haugen compared her former company to a low level when she compared Facebook to other social networking platforms.

Misleading incentives

She says that every person in this institution will see someone in their pursuit. She explained that the seemingly abusive behavior is not visible but the incentives lead people astray and cause distortion in their mental order.

Practical efforts

In addition to TV interviews and newspaper columns, Francis Haugen has had significant meetings with members of the US Congress in this regard. They include senators. She has met with Senator Richard Blumenthal and Senator Marsha Blackburn and briefed them on the damage caused by Facebook.

In addition to the United States, she mentioned the social damage caused by Facebook in her meetings with lawmakers in Britain and France, as well as members of the European Parliament.

 According to the New York Times, Francis Haugen will appear before the US Congress on Tuesday, October 5 to defend her statements and will be questioned by members. Haugen has also appeared before the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and made it clear to the commission that Facebook has betrayed investors by continuing its nefarious aims.
