Men like Colonel Bondar and Private Pavlenko, with blindfolded eyes and bloody faces, are certainly the lucky ones. The images on doctors' phones tell the story of human carnage: chopped hands, burned skin, and legs severed like beef.
A man's thighs and genitals had been pierced by hot metal shards. Another graphic image showed the sole of a foot cut off.
