Chandrakant Pandit KKR New Coach

If you follow Ranji Trophy, then you would remember the Madhya Pradesh cricket team lifting a man on their shoulders after their historic maiden Ranji Trophy title. That man is Chandrakant Pandit, then the coach of the team.

Chandrakant Pandit is the man who has turned things into gold during his coaching stint. He is considered a legend in the domestic circuit. He lead Mumbai Cricket Team to successive Ranji titles in 2002-03, and 2003-04. And, then the Vidarbha cricket team to the same feat in 2018 and 2019. In 2022, the maidan Ranji trophy title for Madhya Pradesh.

Although the story of Chandrakant Pandit doesn’t commence here.

Chandrakant Pandit had a short international career of six years from 1986-1992. He represented the Indian national team in 5 test matches, and 36 ODIs. He was a wicketkeeper-batsman from Mumbai, trying to make a space for himself on the national side after Syed Kirmani’s retirement. Born in September 1961, Pandit was known for his attractive strokeplay and competent wicketkeeping. His international career came to a halt, after which he joined the domestic, and witnessed moderate success.

But, his popularity comes with his coaching phase. Chandrakant Pandit is like the Jose Mourinho of the Indian domestic circuit. He is a taskmaster, and disciplinarian. He has plans and wants to execute them on the field efficiently without much interference from the management or the staff, sometimes even the captain or bowler. The style might seem problematic, but it has shown results.

KKR’s current caption Shreyas Iyer has played under Pandit’s coaching, and both did wonders for Mumbai. The KKR management would be hoping to replicate the same fate in IPL. Although, KKR management came under a lot of criticism for their involvement in the team selection and handling of the team last season. "CEO Also Involved In Team Selection", said Captain Shreyas Iyer. The statement received a lot of backlashes. It would be interesting to see, how the coaching style of Chandrakant and KKR’s management impact the team’s performance in the upcoming season.

Domestic circuit legend Chandrakant Pandit would be replacing New Zealand’s Brendon Mccullum as the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL season. Mccullum joined England’s National Team as their head coach, leaving the KKR.

IPL 2022, with their underwhelming and inconsistent performance, KKR stood at 7th position among 10 teams.
