Ground Report | New Delhi: Sputnik V, a double-dose Russian vaccine, is now launched in India. Sputnik V vaccine is prepared under Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology using a similar platform to Covishiled with an Efficacy of 91% of the highest Covid vaccines available in India, according to a publication in the scientific journal The Lancet.

In India, its distribution partner is Dr. Reddy Laboratory, which administered the first dose in Hyderabad, now also available in Delhi's private Hospital. According to the Dr. Reddy Laboratory, till now only 8-9 States have approached, only those States are reaching out who can manage -18 degree centigrade storage, which is highly required.

What are the conditions required to store?

Deepak Sapra, Dr. Reddys Chief Executive Officer, API, and Services said in a press conference that the vaccine will be imported in a frozen condition from Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) with which it has an agreement to distribute 125 million human doses ( 250 million vials) in India, maintaining -18 to -22.

The doses will be kept outside for 15-20 minutes before being administered to the people. (according to the report published in Indian Express). He also added that "necessary cold storage infrastructure is required to distribute vaccines all over India" which will take time in arrangements.

Sputnik V is available in Delhi

Russia's COVID-19 Vaccine - Sputnik V is available at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Sputnik V vaccine was given emergency use authorization by the Drugs Controller General of India. The first dose of the imported vaccine was given in Hyderabad last month. For private COVID-19 vaccination centres (CVCs), the maximum price of Covishield has been fixed at Rs 780 per dose, while that of Covaxin is Rs 1,410 per dose.

Step 1: Visit the official website- www.cowin.gov.in

Step 2: Scroll down to 'Find your nearest vaccination center'

Step 3: Click on 'Register Yourself'

Step 4: Enter the mobile number and tap on 'Get OTP'

Step 5: Enter the OTP and follow the on-screen instructions to register yourself.

Sputnik V is likely to make its debut In Pune

Sputnik V is likely to make its debut at Sahyadri and Noble hospitals in Pune City after June 21. Sahyadri hospital authorities on Monday said they have ordered 5,000 doses (including the first and second doses) of the Russian vaccine and will start giving jabs after June 21. A hospital source said another 10,000 doses are also in the pipeline.

Why it is not available in Jharkhand?

Sputnik V is a two-dose vaccine, which is the second most expensive Covid-19 jab after covaxin in India. Speaking to GroundReport.in State Health Secretary of Jharkhand, Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni said that "our government is in touch with the union health minister regarding availability of Sputnik V in Jharkhand".

After the second wave the government is trying to vaccinate the people of Jharkhand as soon as possible and Sputnik V will help to fulfill the shortage of vaccines in Jharkhand. As we are monitoring the efficacy of the Russian vaccine we will make it available in Jharkhand very soon, so that people can choose their best vaccine in our state he added.

He denied to answer on how much will Sputnik V cost in Jharkhand, but he gave assurance the price might go down, but it is not clear now.

What is the rate fixed by the government?

The highest rate of Sputnik V is Rs.1,145 per dose is fixed by the center, and it is given to private hospitals at the rate of Rs.995.40 per dose. At this rate, the vaccine is already available in a private hospital of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and now in the selected hospitals in Delhi.
