Why is social networking site down

At present, the firm has not confirmed why the outages have occurred. Facebook is usually fairly secretive when it comes to its services going down, and often doesn't give a reason why this has happened until the service is restarted.

Meanwhile, those who weren't able to use all the Facebook-owned apps took to Twitter and within minutes Twitterati started sharing their reactions on the "examination".

Many of the responses included hilarious rants and GIFs about the situation. Several tweets have also prompted the hashtag #WhatsApp to trend on Twitter. Sharing a picture of a penguin with logos across social media platforms, a user Wasim Hanif wrote: "Instagram down, Facebook down, WhatsApp down. You know who's in charge now?"

Another user shared a still image from the famous comedy Bollywood movie "Hera Pheri" and wrote: "People are flocking to Twitter just to confirm #WhatsApp down."

A user shared an animated picture of a girl sitting in front of a laptop and captioned the picture, "While you were talking to your crush, but #WhatsApp suddenly stopped."

The company often remains secretive about the causes of any issues and doesn't tend to explain them even after fixing them. For example, in 2019, it suffered its biggest outage in years - and only said it had "triggered a problem" during "routine maintenance tasks".
