Ground Report | New Delhi: A television journalist who worked for ABP News and ABP Ganga died under suspicious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh. Two days earlier, Sulabh Srivastava had expressed the possibility of his murder.  He had written a letter to the ADG of Prayagraj Zone, expressing the possibility of murder at the hands of the liquor mafia. 

Sulabh Srivastava had written a letter saying that his life was in danger from the liquor mafia. The cause of Sulabh's death is being told as a road accident. He was a resident of Sadarpur West located on Station Road of Police Station Kotwali Nagar in Pratapgarh. On Sunday evening, he went to the coverage of the action to nab the criminals in the Lalganj area.

Around 10.30 pm and were returning home with friends. On reaching Katra Mediniganj, the other comrades were behind, while due to the speed of the bike, he went ahead while talking on the mobile. After some time the companions arrived, they found him lying dead on the side of the road.

Police said that he had minor injuries on his head. After investigation, the body was sent to the mortuary. The police are suspecting that Sulabh may have been a victim of the accident. Police believe that the road was slippery due to rain and due to this his bike became uncontrollable and he became a victim of the accident.

SP Dhawal Jaiswal, in charge of Pratapgarh in the case, says that in the preliminary investigation, it has come to the fore that the deceased were victims of the accident. Eyewitnesses have also told the same thing. The investigation is being done. Further action will be taken after the post mortem report is received.

Pratapgarh police said in a statement said “Srivastava was returning on his motorcycle at around 11 pm on Sunday after media coverage. He fell from his motorcycle near a brick kiln. Some laborers picked him up from the road and then used his phone to call his friends. He was taken to the district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead”.

Police also said that preliminary investigation revealed that Srivastava's "bike fell after hitting a hand pump on the side of the road." The police also said that they are probing the matter from other angles as well.

Sulabh had sent a complaint letter to ADG Prayagraj Zone a day earlier, threatening his life and that of his family. In this, it was told that in the past, he had covered the incident of the arrest of illegal liquor in different police station areas of Pratapgarh district. After this, on June 9, the news was also run on the digital platform of the news channel.

However, the liquor mafia is angry with them about that news. It was also told in the letter that whenever he comes out of the house for the last two days, it appears that someone is following him. In such a situation, he feels that some liquor mafia, who is unhappy with his news, may harm him or his family. His family is also scared.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government saying that "the liquor mafia has killed from Aligarh to Pratapgarh but the UP government is silent (sic)".

She asked in a tweet, "Does the UP government, which nurtures 'jungle raj', have any answer to the tears of the family members of journalist Sulabh Srivastava?"
