"When Reddit announced r/place again, I knew Ukraine would have to be properly represented," moderator u/anondeadpixel said in an email to Mashable. "I reached out to a few people who had started r/placeUkraine as a joke before the r/place 2022 announcement, and well, we were quickly swamped by everyone who swamped us."
It has gained a lot of popularity this weekend as hundreds of streamers started playing the game and mobilized their communities to go to Reddit and place their pixel. The Hispanic community has come together under Rubius' leadership to create something great.
Reddit users remain active on r/place with the intention of protecting their designs until all pixels are locked down forever sometime today (an announcement confirmed it would be closing today, but didn't say what time). u/anondeadpixel says the response has been extremely positive.
