patra chawl scam explained

Patra Chawl Scam Explained: Patra Chawl was located in North Mumbai, Goregaon Siddharthnagar. There were a total of 672 houses on 7 acres of land. In the year 2008, MHADA prepared a development project for this chawl. Under this, 672 flats on this land were to be provided to the families already living here and the remaining 3000 flats were to be built for MHADA.

As you must have seen in many Bollywood movies, to make the chawl a modern society, the builder first gets the house vacated, bulldoze them, and then runs away with the money. Something similar happened with the people of Patra Chawl.

Chronology of Patra Chawl Scam

Praveen Raut and GACPL on behalf of a company named Guru Ashish Construction sold this land to 16 builders for 901 crores by giving wrong information to MHADA. GACPL did not build a single flat.

People living here were dragged out of their homes in 2008 and their homes were bulldozed. After showing big dreams to these people, their house was grabbed, and even after 14 years, they have not got that house. Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has been arrested in the same scam.

ED claims that out of this scam, Praveen Raut got 112 crores from HDIL company. Out of this Rs 1.06 crore was given to Sanjay Raut. In 2010, Rs 83 lakh was transferred to Varsha Raut's account by which a flat in Dadar and land in Alibaag were purchased. In this land deal, all the money was given in cash. According to the ED, Sanjay Raut has been the main conspirator in this entire deal.

Who has been arrested in the Patra Chawl scam?

ED has detained Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in this scam. Along with this, his wife Varsha Raut is being questioned.

Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, former promoter of HDIL, and Sarang Kumar Wadhawan, son of Rakesh, Pravin Raut, one of the directors of GACPL, have also been arrested by the ED.

After the fall of Uddhav Thackeray's government in Maharashtra, the ED has tightened the grip on Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in this case. Uddhav Thackeray has become weak without Sanjay Raut. The 672 families whose homes have been destroyed in this scam say that even after the arrest of Sanjay Raut, they will not get a house. They have been fighting for the last 14 years. During this, the BJP government also remained in Maharashtra but they did not get justice.
