What Elon Musk’s new Artificial Intelligence company xAI will do?

Elon Musk has entered the tech arena, launching his new company, xAI, which focuses on artificial intelligence and aims to challenge OpenAI, the pioneer creator of ChatGPT.

Musk himself leads the team comprising renowned AI researchers and computer scientists who possess extensive experience in innovative projects like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. They have also introduced innovative techniques such as transformer memorization, allowing the AI to quickly acquire new knowledge.

What is xAI?

Elon Musk has revealed his latest venture, xAI, as his newly established artificial intelligence company. With a team of 12 members, xAI aims to delve into the "true nature of the universe," as stated on its official website announcement.

While xAI operates independently from X Corp, the umbrella company of Twitter, it intends to maintain close collaboration with Musk's other ventures, including Twitter and Tesla, where AI plays a crucial role in the development of self-driving cars. Catherine Flick, a professor at De Montfort University, humorously remarks, "I don't know what the deal with the Xs is. He obviously just likes Xs."

The team of this new company is led by the current CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk. However, the official page lists other people – most of them researchers or computer scientists specialized in AI – who participate in this proposal jointly.

Musk's AI vision and criticisms

The company's initial project centers around the development of a language model and chatbot that will rival ChatGPT and other similar advancements like Bard. However, xAI has not disclosed specific details about its future plans, keeping them shrouded in mystery for now.

According to a CNN note, this ambitious goal comes hand in hand with Musk's claims to artificial intelligence that he has previously communicatedAlthough the CEO of Twitter was one of the first to support OpenAI's ChatGPT, he was also the first to criticize it when the company began applying certain techniques to prevent the chatbot from giving biased or sexist responses.

In fact, on several occasions, he expressed his rejection of this practice. In December of last year, Musk tweeted, "AI training to be woken, in other words, lying, is deadly" In an interview with Fox News in April, he stated, "We're going to initiate a project called TruthGPT," indicating that this bot will be focused on emulating the highest level of objectivity.

Who involves?

xAI, the artificial intelligence company recently launched by Elon Musk, has pored together an exceptional team of experts hailing from esteemed organizations including DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla. Additionally, the team consists of highly skilled researchers affiliated with the University of Toronto in Canada.

While the team brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds, it is important to note that the gender representation is significantly skewed, with the team consisting solely of men. Catherine Flick, a philosopher at De Montfort University, comments on the composition, expressing skepticism about the team's focus on understanding the universe and considering it a simplistic form of parlor philosophy.
