Facebook is planning to change its name

Ground Report | New Delhi: new name of Facebook; A small revolution for the nearly 3 billion users of the social network. After 17 years known as Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg could soon unveil the new identity of the web giant.

Facebook plans to change its name next week to underscore its desire to focus on creating its "metaverse", The Verge website reported Tuesday (October 19th), citing a source familiar with the matter.

The report says that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to talk about the new name at the company's annual conference to be held on October 28. Although the new name can be revealed even before that.

The Verge report says that through the rebranding of Facebook, various social media apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus can be brought under one umbrella.

new name of Facebook

Facebook is facing many problems one after the other. Recently, many times his services were stalled for several hours, due to which he had to bear the loss of billions. The disclosures being made by former employees of the company have also damaged the image of Facebook.

Former employee Francis Hogen leaked some documents, saying that Facebook knew that its website could be dangerous to the mental health of young people. In addition, there is a growing demand for control over the growing influence of Facebook in many countries.

Last month, the US newspaper The Washington Post indicated in a report that Facebook may try to improve its image by announcing the Metaverse. The Washington Post wrote that the company's interest in the Metaverse "may be part of efforts to restore the company's image among policy-makers and prepare Facebook for the next wave of Internet technologies."

Future focused on the metaverse

This week Facebook said it would focus on the future Internet 'metaverse'. Announcing the recruitment of ten thousand people for the Metaverse team in Europe, the company wrote in a blog that the Metaverse is the future.

Facebook said in a blog post, "The Metaverse has the potential to open new dimensions on the creative, social and economic front. The people of the European Union will prepare for this from the very beginning. Today we will discuss the plan to recruit 10,000 people in the EU." Announcing which will be done during the next 5 years.

It is such a technology under which humans will be able to enter the digital world virtually. Experts say that it will feel as if you are talking to someone, then he is sitting in front of you, whereas in reality both the people are connected from miles away through the internet.

Facebook under any other name

It makes sense that Facebook wants to rebrand to better reflect the various products and brands it now runs, such as Oculus, focused on VR. We saw a similar strategy in 2015 when Google restructured and created a new parent company for itself called Alphabet, and Google's suite of products and services became a subsidiary of that new parent.

Six years later, it's safe to say that Google's DNA hasn't changed that much, and similarly, creating a new parent company for Facebook may have little effect on Facebook's current range of products and services, and is probably more. focused on future ambitions.

That said, it must be recognized that Facebook is in the midst of a brand crisis. Last month, The Wall Street Journal published "The Facebook Files," a controversial set of leaked documents showing that Facebook had conducted its own research on the negative impact of Instagram on the mental health of adolescents.

The whistleblower soon revealed herself to be a former Facebook employee, Frances Haugen, who has since testified before the United States Senate about what she claims are harmful practices at the social giant.

If Mark Zuckerberg is going to announce plans to change Facebook's name on October 28, that's also a convenient excuse to put some space between the company's other brands and the dark reputation its social media platform has earned.
