Vijayawada floods: Major evacuations and relief in action

NDRF's Raja noted Vijayawada's flooding was unprecedented, surpassing previous disasters, including the recent Chennai floods.

Collector D.K. Balaji reported 2.37 lakh affected people, with 6,600 evacuated from 20 villages and 41 relief camps set up.

State officials, including Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra and MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry, visited flood-affected villages, providing assurances and assistance.

Vijayawada’s August 31 floods led to the deployment of 26 NDRF teams, 22 State Disaster Response Forces, and two Navy teams.

The state government reported 33 deaths and two missing persons, with ongoing evacuation and relief efforts in severely impacted areas.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, seen wading through floodwaters, has assured that government operations will continue from the affected areas.

Repair work on the Budameru canal, breached by excess water, is underway with the help of 40 Army engineers to restore normalcy. The Union government is expected to provide funds for flood relief, with Union Minister Shivaraj Singh Chauhan promising assistance after surveying the damage.
