Aranyak of Raveena Tandon streaming on Netflix

Ground Report | New Delhi: Aranyak streaming on Netflix; The literal meaning of Aranyak is 'of the forest'. In the Netflix drama that brings back Raveena Tandon to your screens, the major event that triggers the show takes place inside the jungle. The landscape is such that the people are surrounded by a thick layer of forest, which makes it seem that they have obstructed the wildlife to make their home. And the man versus animal conflict is also talked about.

Composed by Rohan Sippy and written by Charudatta Acharya and Rohan, Aranyaka's story had a promising premise. A landscape that is in the center of the wild. A system that is progressing at its own pace and is also corrupt. Above all is the myth of a demon that is half human half leopard. It takes a lot to build an interesting script around it. Take for example Bulbul produced by Anushka Sharma and Stree starring Rajkummar Rao.

Starting with a power game inside a police station, the show soon goes through a murder, followed by an investigation, followed by politicians playing their game, followed by a family drama. There are many things to make a show a hit. And the writer along with the director try to touch all of them but fall into the trap of how much is too much. About that later.

Director Vinay Vaikul has directed the show in a major way. The screenplay keeps shuffling between the many setups that we are introduced to in the first 2 or so episodes. There are not many uses from their side. Of course, he uses a character's traumatic past as a flashback to open every episode, but where is the bridge for me to connect with his sadness?

Aranyaka, which literally means forest, is also the title of a famous Bengali novel written by Vibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay between 1937 and 1939. It comes after his long and hard research in the remote areas of Bhagalpur and Purnia in which he talks about the relationship between. Urban and jungle lives. In fact, there is a sequence in the Netflix series in which Kasturi stops Mahadev from killing a panther that has wandered into their premises, scaring the life of his daughter Nutan. Beyond that, I don't think there is any connection between a literary work and a TV series.
