Reports indicate that Fayaz lay in wait for Neha outside the college premises and launched a brutal assault upon her as soon as she emerged. Armed with a knife and concealing his identity with a mask, Fayaz inflicted multiple stab wounds to Neha's neck, an act captured by CCTV cameras. Following the vicious attack, Fayaz fled the scene, leaving Neha severely injured and bleeding profusely.
Fayaz confronted Neha, stabbing her multiple times
The video footage captures the harrowing moment when Fayaz confronted Neha, who attempted to flee. Despite her efforts, he overpowered her, pinning her to the ground and repeatedly stabbing her. Several witnesses rushed to the scene, but Fayaz managed to escape.
Fellow students rushed Neha to KIMS Hospital after witnessing the horrific attack, but tragically, she succumbed to her critical injuries.
Reports suggest that Fayaz had been persistently pressuring Neha to enter a relationship with him, but she repeatedly rejected his advances. Frustrated by her refusals despite months of stalking, he allegedly resorted to violence, resulting in her untimely death.
Following the murder, Fayaz went into hiding but was eventually arrested by the police. Authorities believe that he intended to kill Neha, as indicated by his choice to stab her in the neck.
City Police Commissioner Renuka K Sukumar stated, “They were classmates during their BCA studies. While Neha continued her education and pursued her MCA, Fayaz discontinued. He has been apprehended, and investigations are underway.”
An investigating officer remarked, “It appears to be a case of unrequited love that drove him to commit this act. We are gathering information from Neha's friends and relatives to ascertain the motive behind the murder.”
Neha's family expressed that they were unfamiliar with Fayaz, and she had never mentioned him before.
Several Congress leaders, including MLA Prasad Abbayya, visited the hospital to offer condolences to Neha’s grieving family. Additionally, the city unit of ABVP staged a protest outside the college, demanding stringent action against the accused.
Protests by family, pro-Hindu groups
Family members of the victim, Neha Hiremath, along with pro-Hindu organizations, held a protest outside the Vidyanagar police station in Hubballi, demanding strict action against the accused.
Neha's father, Niranjanayya Hiremath, emphasized the need for the police to ensure the accused faces consequences, expressing concern that if released on bail, he may take matters into his own hands.
Pro-Hindu group members criticized the lack of protection for Hindus under the state's Congress government, calling for measures akin to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath's stringent approach. They vowed to continue their fight until the accused receives capital punishment and urged local lawyers not to represent the accused in court.
